Silverdale

Silverdale (originally name Weiti, after the river) got it's name in 1911, named after the silver poplar trees that dominated the area. We love teaching our kids little bits about their local area. Our mascot here at Tiny Voices Silverdale is the Poplar tree.

Kia ora, ko Lucy tōku ingoa.

I have been a teacher for over 16 years and a mum for four years. My journey in teaching began in 2009 when I graduated with a Bachelor of Teaching degree from Waikato University. I started in a decile one school before I moved overseas to teach in private schools in China, where I also enjoyed travelling and learning Mandarin.

When I returned, I continued as a New Entrant teacher, supporting tamariki in a modern learning environment alongside an incredible team of kaiako. After settling the beautiful Hibiscus Coast, I had my son, Ray, who has attended Tiny Voices Silverdale since he was one. I love being involved in our incredible community alongside my husband Sam.

I have always found great satisfaction in making a positive difference and supporting those around me to succeed—whether its supporting tamariki with their learning and celebrating important milestones with them or mentoring colleagues as a Head Teacher. Learning about the first 1000 days with Nathan Wallis has further deepened my knowledge of child development and strengthened my passion for early learning, as it is essential to get right in children's early years before they go to school.

Recently, I stepped into the role of Centre Manager, where I endeavour to make a difference to our tamariki and their whanau. My approach is to support, inspire and uplift others around me. Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, art, and walks on the beach with my whānau.
