Incorporating animals into our centres aligns well with our Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki, which states that animals in the early childhood context enrich children’s learning experiences, providing meaningful links with people places and things within their community. Combining our natural curiosity with animals gives our children the opportunity to learn about scientific concepts and develop sensory, emotional, and social skills. Through interacting with animals, we also learn how to interact with one another, how to show empathy, to take responsibility, and to learn about the affects of our actions on others.
